A Gustavian Bedroom – Then and Now
by Liza Laserow
The room in the first picture is in many ways a characteristic Gustavian bedroom for a slightly simpler house during the period. The walls are covered with a wooden panel and painted in a gray tone. The middle wall framing the canopy is an oil painted canvas. Wide pine planks are used for flooring that are unpainted instead has a soap been used that gives the floor it light washed color. In front of the bed there is a so called “Gripsholm Chair”. The large bed decorated with carvings such as: braided lining, channeled legs and a flower basket on the headboard.
