1st Dibs at 200 Lex

About a year ago the website 1stdibs.com opened their first physical location in New York. In the same building as were our showroom is located the 10th floor was taken over by 53 dealers from 1st Dibs with a mix of modern, traditional and some with contemporary art. Laserow Antiques have a little vignette that we use as a little showcase and change every month. This month we have: A pair of  Swedish Gustavian armchairs in a “Byggmästar modell”  upholstered in a gray and white cotton checkers. They are standing by a late Gustavian secretary ,1800-1810, in mahogany decorated with brass details. On top of the secretary we have places a pair of French brass candlestick lamps with black leather shades and placed a set of 3 chinese ginger jars from the late 18th Century. Behind the ginger jars is a French Louise XVI mirror with a gilt wood frame with leaf tip carvings. The oil on canvas painting is by an unknown artist picturing a young aristocratic gentleman.

Kitchen Advice

Good friends are about to re-do their kitchen and asked me for advice. Its a small “one wall” kitchen in a lovely little townhouse in Chelsea. I suggested to do the kitchen cabinets in a bluish color. Found this inspiration on the blog A Perfect Gray http://www.aperfectgray.com/. I love the bluish gray and the marble top but would change the wall to crisp white subway tiles and loose the dark wooden stools for something with an accent color like red or a washed out coral.

Exciting Projects Coming Up!

1. Fashion HEARTS Antiques: My ambition of giving antiques a status of more kool might be working out very well. I was last contacted by an amazing fashion brand that wants to use Swedish antiques for the set design of their Resort fashion show. Fingers crossed and I will be telling you more as soon as I can.

2. Inspiring Ladies: Have been asked to be in a REALLY fabulous magazine as an “inspiring lady” to talk about Laserow Antiques and my wardrobe! Photo Shoot is coming up!!

3. Education, education, education: The more you know about antiques the more fun it is. Starting in the fall Laserow Antiques will be collaborating with Visit Sweden in an online series of antique classes about Swedish antiques and castles. I will of course let you know when, what and how!

Karin Laserow, my mother, has written a book! During the last 9 months she has been writing, designing and creating this master piece. Its about Swedish Antiques in contemporary interiors, an inspirational tool for anyone who is interested in antiques. It gives you great guidance how to separate newly produced from antique furniture, to put an estimate on an antique but also how to decorate with them. There are plenty of books out there about antiques but this book is for the contemporary reader who wants to learn more about antiques and learn how to mix them into their interiors. To get a good understanding about antiques the book gives you a basic knowledge within the periods of Swedish furniture history such as: Baroque, Rococo, Empire, Gustavian and Jugend.

Book launch is set to September 2012 in Sweden.
